CDSF Conducts Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture Training for SNNPR

The Capacity Development Support Facility (CDSF) conducted training on nutrition-sensitive agriculture (NSA) in Shashamene town from September 18 – 21, 2018. Participants were drawn from several Implementing Agencies (IAs), namely regional Bureau of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Bureau of Livestock & Forage, Bureau of Trade & Industry, Southern Agriculture Research Institute and Regional Cooperative Promotion Agency. Nineteen participants (10 women) attended the NSA training.

Alem Hadera, CDSF Senior Nutrition Consultant, and Firehiwot Tefera, Regional Nutrition Capacity Development Specialist co- facilitated the training.

Major topics covered during the four-day training included: Essential Nutrition Concepts, Agriculture and Food System, Agriculture-Nutrition Linkage, Agriculture-to-Nutrition Pathways, Developing Seasonal Calendar, Behavioral Change and Communication (BCC), Designing Effective NSA Activities, Ethiopian NSA Profile (National NSA Strategy) and planned CDSF activities.

During the training, the facilitators applied adult learning principles and methodologies such as group discussions, group presentations, role plays, etc. Participants indicated that the adult learning approach helped them to quickly acquire knowledge and practical skills which will assist them in preparing their Annual Plan on Nutrition Sensitive Agriculture and help identify challenges facing NSA implementation.

Ato Kedir Mohammed, SNNPR AGP-CU Coordinator closed the training sessions. He emphasized the importance of the training and encouraged participants to apply the knowledge and skills gained in the four-day training in their respective work places.
